Whirl of Leaves for flute and harp

Whirl of Leaves was composed during the fall of 2006. Seeing all the red and yellow leaves falling down from the trees made me connect the gestures in my composition with the way leaves move in the wind - quickly and unpredictably, changing their direction suddenly, whirling high up in the air or slowly falling down.

The flute and harp share these fast moving motions. The piece is full of energy. Sometimes it slows down, but only for a short while before its inherent energy once again bursts in to new whirls.

Whirl of Leaves was commissioned by Svenska Rikskonserter for Camilla Hoitenga and Héloïse Dautry.
